  • To improve the sexual and reproductive health status of female sex workers (FSWs) from poor, marginalized communities by creating positive role models from among the FSWs to counsel their peers on SRHR through community-based out reach.

Expected results/output:

  • Train 10 FSWs as community outreach workers and 7 mobilize as counsellors.
  • Improved knowledge on sexual and reproductive and their rights among 1000 FSWs.
  • Improved healthy behaviors and utilization of SRH services among 500 FSW.
  • Demonstrated proof of concept of community based outreach of using FSWs as counsellors
  • Key stakeholders have shown interest and commitment for scale-up.

Expected outcomes:

  • Research outcomes disseminated, published paper in national and international journals
  • Continual improvement of SRH status of FSWs with expanded programming from the government and partner organizations.

  • To advocate for increase resources and access of comprehensive SRH services targeting women living with HIV, female sex workers, female who use drugs and other HIV KP.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased individual and agency awareness on SRHR
  • Increased access to resources and services related to SRHR
  • Lobby to include WLHIV and HIV KP in the “Reproductive Health Right bills 2016”

Expected Outputs:

  • Develop 40 master trainers on SRHR of WLHIV and HIV KAP from the related community based organizations (CBOs).
  • A formative research report on accessibility and utilization of the available SRH services by HIV KP is available.
  • Total 210 representatives from WLHIV, HIV KAP community consulted on comprehensive reproductive health bill 2016 through consultative workshops covering all 7 provinces of Nepal. A consolidated report with key recommendations readily available and shared with relevant stakeholders.
  • Sensitized 200 individuals i.e. parliamentarians, media personnel, NGOs working in HIV and SRH on SRHR of WLHIV and HIV Key populations to include the target populations in the comprehensive health bill 2016 using the reports of the formative research and community consultation.
  • Continued lobbing to include WLHIV and HIV Key populations in the comprehensive health bill 2016.

  • To advocate for increase funding/resources for SRH services and rights targeting marginalized groups i.e. women living with HIV; adolescents living with HIV and female sex workers.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Increased individual and agency awareness on SRHR
  • Increased access to resources and services related to SRHR

Expected Outputs:

  • FAITH’s organizational strategic plan of action is developed.
  • Total 240 WLHIV and FSWs oriented about their SRHR as human rights; at least 50% of which attended SRHR training for the first time; at least 50% of them reported an increase in awareness of SRHR and 60% of them has the potential to become active in advocating for their SRHR.
  • A situational analysis report is developed on technical and funding gaps in SRHR program for HIV KP.
  • Gaps and needs are identified through community dialogues on available SRHR services targeting WLHIV, FSWs after discussion with 240 WLHIV and FSWs participants. A consolidated report developed with key points; gaps, issues, recommendations based on the community dialogues.
  • Share the final report to stress on the need to increase resource allocation for SRH services for HIV KAP with government (national and local bodies); donors and other relevant stakeholders.
  • 3 events are organized advocating for SRHR of HIV KAP reaching at least 300,000 audiences.

– To advocate on the recognition failure of SRHR (by state) of female sex workers and Women Living with HIV (WLHIV).
– To challenge the discriminatory attitudes of health workers in order to improve their access to SRH related services.

Outcomes:

• CBOs who are working in HIV only are now recognized as an advocate for SRHR at their local level. The project has supported target group led partner CBOs, who are much focused on HIV program to understand their SRHR and its violation.
• Local activists on SRHR of WLHIV and FSWs are being equipped. FSWs CBOs who has never had any open discussion about their problem and issues with the local government agencies like DHO/DPHO are now sharing their SRHR violation matter, seeking way out to address such violations of their rights and demanding for equal treatment at health care facilities.
• Creating open forums at national and districts level for discussion on SRHR of WLHIV and FSWs as a part of their health rights.

Outputs:

– 53 individuals (49 female and 4 male) from CBOs of WLHIV and FSWs were trained to advocate for SRHR and to collect evidences on their SRHR rights violations.
– Out of the trained 53 participants, more than 90% reported SRHR as a new concept and rest who had some information acknowledged that they never realized that they also have SRH rights.
– At the end of the project, 31 out of the trained 53 participants were reached to understand if they are still active in advocating for SRHR. Around 90% reported sharing information about SRHR to their members, friends through formal/informal meetings; with local authorities.
– 16 CBOs collected total 360 cases studies of WLHIV and FSWs on accessing SRH related services in health care settings.
– Around 140 service providers like local authorities, health workers, NGOs working directly with WLHIV and FSWs were reached to increase their engagement and actively support SRHR of WLHIV and FSWs by addressing SRHR issues raised during case studies collection.

  • To incorporate key recommendations of KAP in the concept note for Global Fund in order to find the missing 10,500 TB cases in Nepal.
  • To incorporate key recommendations of CSOs in the concept note enhancing community system strengthen approach in Tuberculosis program in Nepal.
  • To enhance the role of civil society members in TB control program in Nepal.

Outcomes:

The first national level joint consultation workshops with government, technical partners, CSOs and most importantly KAP from all five regions of Nepal were conducted. Key recommendations were submitted to the GFATM concept note development team and also to the National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2016 – 2021 development team. This provided an opportunity for direct involvement of KAP at the national level and also to increase involvement of CSOs enhancing community system strengthen approach in Tuberculosis program in Nepal.

To detect additional new smear positive TB cases among children (0-14) in low case finding districts.

Outcomes:

  • The project targeted to screen 27,052 children from the 10 project districts and identify 790 childhood TB cases in its project duration. The project achieved to screen 28,513 children out of which 59 SS+ and 394 all forms cases were identified and enrol in the DOTS centre in the project districts.

Outputs:

  • Total 363 volunteers were trained to conduct contact tracing, suspected case identification, sputum collection method, linkages of the suspected cases to the microscopic centre and the TB detected cases to the treatment centre (DOTS).
  • Total 129 health care providers in microscopic centres and treatment centres were trained on child TB diagnosis and management issues in accordance with the NTP guidelines under this project.
  • 10,000 posters and brochure were developed in Nepali language and distributed through community volunteers, District health offices (DHO), health post, sub- health post and at the World TB day 2013 national event. It was used by the community volunteers mainly to create general awareness and as well as to give them the right information on TB to reduce stigma related with TB prevalent in the community.
  • Total 255 health personnel working in safe motherhood service are oriented to conduct TB screening. Total 1000 pregnant women and children under 5 years are screened for TB.
  • Total of 96 general physicians and paediatricians are oriented on childhood TB program and diagnosis through this project.

To decrease the burden of TB in the population affected by both diseases by ensuring effective collaboration between TB and HIV programmes through effective coordination and delivery of collaborative services.

Outcomes:

Case findings
  • Total 807 TB patients were tested for HIV, out of which 11 tested positive.
  • Total 2074 people from HIV Key populations were screened for TB, out of which 161 suspected cases were tested and 5 new TB cases were identified.
  • 190 people tested for TB, out of which 56 patients were tested TB positive.
Capacity Building
  • Supported for capacity building via trainings of 694 human resources from government and non- government following per the national guideline – out of which 60 – TB, 15 – VCT, 15 – lab, 201 – PAL, 226 – TB/HIV, 20 ACSM, 157 PLHIV on TB/HIV and treatment literacy.
  • Total 135 participants from NGOs/CBOs working in HIV – PLHIV organizations, National Network Group members of Female Sex workers, IDUs, MSM, transport workers (MARPs) service provider groups and media participated in the TB/HIV advocacy campaign.
  • Total 2335 community members including volunteer and support groups, policemen, VDC Members and DOTS committee, religious leaders, mother and women’s groups, school and college students were sensitized on TB/HIV.
  • 27 School health program on TB (through child to child approach) were conducted and reached 829 students.
  • More than 1000 people including general, people working in TB and HIV as well as TB patients and those belonging to the MARPs group are informed about TB-HIV co-infection through school health program, sensitization meetings and testing campaigns.
  • 54 participants were oriented for establishment and scale- up of cross referral system between VCT and DOTS centers/sites.
  • Three DOTS centre in VCT/ART sites was provided furniture support.
  • A situation analysis of TB/HIV collaboration and mapping of service providers was conducted in Dadeldhura.
  • Total 16 street dramas on TB/HIV were organized by people infected with TB/HIV and at least 200 general people witness in each drama.
  • Seven support groups with seven members in each were established.
  • 17 TB-HIV clients received seed money of Rs. 10000.00 for income generation.
  • 81 TB/HIV clients, HIV positive and their family members received vocational trainings on sewing, agriculture and computer.
BCC/IEC related
  • 5400 pcs posters, 13500 pcs brochure, 40500 pcs leaflet, 27000 pcs sticker, 5 pcs hoarding board, 1350 pcs flex print, 1350 pcs Flip cloth chart, 7200 pcs monthly planner, World TB day related 3000 pcs posters and 9000 stickers were developed and distributed in 63 districts of Nepal.
  • TB radio jingles in three languages (Nepali, Bhojpur and Maithli) were developed and aired covering all Nepal.
  • 10000 pcs of poster were printed and submitted to NTC.
  • 12 radio programs was developed and aired weekly through Nepal FM network covering all Nepal. One television program was aired in Terai TV on the occasion of World TB day, 2012.
  • One article on TB/HIV was published in each development region – Kailali, Chitwan and Nawalparasi, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Biratnagar.
  • A “World TB day 2012 special” television PSA was developed and provided to NATA for the broadcasting.
  • Far – west related posters were developed and distributed in three languages – Tharu, Doteli and Acchami.

Participated in National World TB day 2013 program and installed hoarding boards for a week in two major locations.
